Whitney Bowden, flute

Born in 1980, Whitney Bowden is in her second year as a member–and as principal flutist–with The Naperville Winds. Whitney enjoys performing with several different groups in the Chicagoland area, including the Wheaton Municipal Band, where she has been principal flute for the past three seasons. She also plays bass flute with the West Suburban Flute Orchestra and subs with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra. She received her Bachelor of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Joshua Smith, principal flute with the Cleveland Orchestra. She then studied with Thomas Robertello at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she received her Master’s Degree in Music.

Whitney has had the pleasure of playing in orchestras across the country, including under notable conductors such as Michael Tilson Thomas with the New World Symphony and Franz Welser-Most of the Cleveland Orchestra. As a committed teacher, her students have played in All-State groups as well as with both the Chicago and Elgin Youth Symphonies.

She lives in St. Charles with her husband, daughter, and rescue greyhound. Outside of playing music, she can be found at work in the accounting department of a packaging company, devouring novels and cookies, playing games with her family, and walking her dog.
